How the project contributes to strengthening CLABSI prevention
Although largely preventable, central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) continue to represent a serious threat to patient safety, contributing to increased morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. Therefore, the systematic implementation of preventive measures remains a major challenge.
To strengthen CLABSI prevention in Swiss acute care hospitals, the project team first analysed current CLABSI prevention practices. In close collaboration with partner hospitals, the team will also develop evidence-based recommendations adapted to the Swiss context, an implementation guide, and an automated tool for monitoring process indicators. The full set of tools will be made available to hospitals by the end of 2028.
The project is led by Prof. Niccolò Buetti and Dr Gaud Catho, supported by a small project team and the partner hospitals.
