What does Swissnoso do?
Swissnoso is dedicated to the task of reducing infections that are associated with a stay or procedure in a hospital or long term care facility. Swissnoso has also commited itself to the containment of antibiotic resistance.
Swissnoso regularly publishes analyses and recommendations in the Swissnoso Bulletin. Since 2006 this bulletin has exclusively been available electronically.
In collaboration with the Swiss confederation and the cantons, Swissnoso has been working for many years on the development and implementation of the national program Swiss Clean Care for the reduction of hospital-acquired infections in Switzerland. On behalf of the National Association for Quality Development in Hospitals and Clinics (ANQ), Swissnoso conducts the nationwide surveillance of postoperative wound infections. This surveillance is at once part of the ANQ measurement plan and, for Swissnoso, a module of Swiss Clean Care. Further Swiss Clean Care modules offered by Swissnoso are an intervention module for the prevention of postoperative wound infections, modules for monitoring and preventing catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and a module for improving hand hygiene compliance. In addition, Swissnoso regularly conducts national point prevalence surveys of healthcare-associated infections and the use of antibiotics in Swiss acute-care hospitals.
In direct collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health, Swissnoso contributes to the management of acute epidemiological challenges such as Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, SARS, viral hemorrhagic fever, anthrax and influenza.
In addition, Swissnoso is engaged in the education and training of infection prevention experts.
